'Wherever I start, I find occupiers', says mayor Atiqul
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam has said wherever he starts for development, he only finds illegal occupiers.
He said the Dhaka city needs to be developed, it's everyone's expectation. "But, wherever--canals, markets, roads and playgrounds-- I start to develop I find illegal occupiers there", he said expressing his frustrations.
"We have to leave our behind beautiful playgrounds, beautiful roads and beautiful canals for our next generation", mayor Atiqul commented while inaugurating Udayachal Park and Playground on Iqbal Road at Dhaka's Mohammadpur area on Saturday.
Among others, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon, local lawmaker Sadeq Khan, DNCC chief executive officer Selim Reza, and architect Iqbal Habib, were present during the inaugural programme.
After the inauguration, a friendly cricket match was held between the DNCC and Indian High Commission.
The DNCC scored 300 runs loosing five wickets in 50 overs while in reply, the Indian high commission lost all the wickets at 128 runs in 13 overs.
