MPs to be left out of school, college bodies: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday said the government will take necessary steps to implement the Supreme Court verdict upholding a High Court order terming the inclusion of MPs as heads of the managing committees or governing bodies of private schools and colleges illegal.
The minister came up with the statement while talking to reporters at the secretariat.
Quoting Nahid news agency UNB said “We’re bound to abide by the court order. We’ll take steps as per the Supreme Court judgment after receiving the order.”
The minister said he will discuss with Education Ministry officials, MPs and lawyers whether they have any suggestions in this regard. “If they come up with any recommendation, we’ll act accordingly,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order that termed inclusion of MPs as heads of the managing committees or governing bodies of the private schools and colleges illegal after hearing a petition filed by Rashed Khan Menon, president of the special committee of Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, and its principal.
