BD first Zika virus case found
The government has confirmed the first case of Zika virus in Bangladesh in a sexagenarian man from Chittagong.
Health Minister Zaid Maleque made the confirmation at a press conference held at the secretariat after a meeting on preparations to fight dengue yesterday.
The World Health Organization on Feb. 1 declared the Zika virus outbreak to be a global public health emergency, citing a "strongly suspected" relationship between Zika infection in pregnancy and microcephaly.
The presence of the virus was found on old blood sample taken from a 67-year-old man in Chittagong in 2014, the junior minister said.
