IPL 2017 auction postponed to late February

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 auction has been postponed, and it is likely to be held in late February now. Originally, the IPL 2017 auction was scheduled to take place on February 04 in Bengaluru. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), however, has not issued a particular date yet. This year’s IPL is scheduled to begin from April 5.

Supreme Court recently appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) led by former CAG Vinod Rai. The COA after meeting BCCI officials decided to postpone the IPL 10 auctions. “The Committee of Administrators (COA) met the concerned BCCI officials today (Wednesday) to take stock of the urgent and important matters mainly concerning the successful conduct of IPL 2017,” a BCCI media release said.

“The committee of administrators assured the franchises that it was overseeing the preparations for IPL and the ‘operational timelines’ will be sent out shortly,” it stated. Also Read- Indian Premier League 2017 to start April 5

According to a ESPNcricinfo report, the franchises expect the auction to take place between February 20-25.

”If we get the roster we can start making a shortlist of players we are after as then we come to know their availability which is always a big determining factor on which players teams pick,” one franchise CEO was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. After the meeting on Wednesday, the COA also had assurance for franchises. “The COA further assures the Franchisees and all the stakeholders that all the IPL preparations will be promptly dealt with under the supervision and directions of the COA by the BCCI/IPL management team,” the media release added.
