Latest ICC ODI team rankings: Bangladesh retain 7th position

Bangladesh have retained their seventh spot and lead West Indies by four points in the latest ICC cricket ODI team rankings.

South Africa have dropped two rating points owing to a below par effort in the tri-series also featuring Australia and West Indies. As a result, India leapfrogged them to take the third spot.

Though both teams are on 110 rating points, the Proteas trail the Indians when decimal points are calculated. A 3-0 whitewash of Zimbabwe in Harare enabled MS Dhoni’s side to acquire a point.

In the ICC Player Rankings for ODI all-rounders, Australia’s Mitchell Marsh has gained three places to reach sixth. The list is headed by Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan.

Meanwhile, Australia continued to stay on top of the standings after winning the Caribbean tournament. Despite losing one rating point, the World Cup holders still hold a 10-point lead over second placed New Zealand.

However, West Indies gained the most points after defeating South Africa twice and Australia once en route to the final. They now have a seven-point advantage over the ninth-ranked Pakistan.

The margin becomes all the more important with only the top eight teams at the cut-off date of September 30, 2017 gaining direct entry to the 2019 World Cup. Bangladesh retained their seventh spot and lead West Indies by four points.

England’s impressive resurgence in the 50-overs format has seen them swap places with Sri Lanka. Following a thrilling tie in the opening match, Eoin Morgan’s team posted a comfortable victory at Edgbaston to sneak ahead of the Lankans to 5th on decimal points.

With still two matches remaining in the series, England could even secure a 4-point difference if they manage to win both. But, Sri Lanka can get back into the top five if the reverse happens.Having suffered a 0-2 defeat in their previous series, Ireland failed to gain crucial points and are the last placed team.

They would hope for a better outcome in the upcoming 5-match series against the tenth-ranked Afghanistan who enjoy a 5 point lead over Zimbabwe.
