Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday accused again BNP-Jamaat nexus of carrying out secret killings in the country as they failed to topple the government. "Having failed to oust the government, they’ve chosen the path of killing teachers and common people...they’re killing teachers, common people secretly and selectively," she added. The Prime Minister said this while addressing a function arranged marking the inauguration of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Institute and laying the foundation stone of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Dental College. She said the BNP-Jamaat made attacks on mosques, temples and churches when they were in power. "They even killed a Krishak League leader inside a mosque in Bogra during their rule." Hasina said she is doing politics to change the fate of common people, not to change her own fate. Those who were engaged in money laundering, corruption and embezzling orphans' money cannot change the fate of common people, she added. Referring to the construction of Padma Bridge, the Prime Minister said starting work on the bridge with the country's own funding was a challenge for her government. Hasina said the World Bank had brought baseless allegation of ‘corruption conspiracy’ over the bridge project to undermine her government and the people of the country. "But the allegation has been proved wrong." The Prime Minister said the construction work on the bridge would have made much more progress had the World Bank not suspended the funding. She said her government has been working hard to improve the living standard of people through ensuring their basic rights like food, cloth, medical service, education and housing. Referring to the country's tremendous development in the last seven and a half years, Hasina said many described the success as surprising. "But it's not surprising, the successes came due to people's unflinching trust in the government and also the government's confidence in people." While talking about the development in the health sector, the Prime Minister said the government has formulated a pro-people health policy to reach healthcare services to the people's doorsteps. Hasina also inaugurated the newly-constructed Chapail Bridge over Madhumati River, Tungipara Head Post Office, Gopalganj District Shishu Academy Complex and Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Bhaban by unveiling their plaques from the function. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stones of Gopalganj Textile Engineering College, Gopalganj 10 Kilowatt FM Radio Station, Gopalganj-Kashiani-Gobra Rail Line Project and Tungipara and Muksudpur Upazila Muktijoddha Complexes. Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health Ministry Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and former adviser on the health to the Prime Minister Professor Dr Modasser Ali also spoke on the occasion. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek Swapan delivered the welcome address at the function held with Health Secretary Syed Manjurul Islam in the chair. Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and Railway Minister Mazibul Haque were present.
