AL and its associate bodies observe the day across the country

Awami League and its associate bodies on Monday are observing August 21 grenade attack day across the country through various programmes including rallies, discussions and special prayers, doa and milad mahfil. The 13th anniversary of the horrible August 21 grenade attack on an Awami League rally is being observed in a somber mood on Monday. AL will also hold a discussion at Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh (KIB) at Khamarbari in city's Farmgate area around 3:30 pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to address the discussion as the chief guest. On this day in 2004, miscreants hurled grenades at a rally of then opposition Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004 leaving at least 24 people dead, including AL women wing chief Ivy Rahman, and scores of others injured. Awami League president and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the brutal grenade attack, but she suffered serious damage to her right ear.
