Locals claimed Mizu has been addicted to phensedyl and drugs for quite some time.
Bogra police have arrested the older brother of Bangladesh national team cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim for possession of phensedyl.
Mahmudur Rahim Mizu, 39, was arrested with two bottles of the contraband syrup on Saturday afternoon in Brindabanpara of Bogra town.
News of his arrest began making the rounds on Sunday afternoon when he was produced before a court.
Sub-Inspector Mohsin of Bogra Sadar police station said: “Mizu not only consumes phensedyl, but also sells it.”
At the court, Senior Judicial Magistrate Shariful Islam sent Mizu to prison.
Locals claimed Mizu had been addicted to phensedyl and other drugs for quite some time. They alleged he had used his family’s influence to sell drugs with impunity.
In May, murder charges were filed against Mushfiqur Rahim’s father.
