Jaya wins Jio Filmfare Awards (East)

Popular Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan bagged the Jio Filmfare Awards (East) 2018 held at Kolkata’s Science City Auditorium on Saturday.

Jaya was adjudged the best actor in a leading role (female) for the cross-border love saga, Bisharjon.

The actor par excellence said this was her first Filmfare award and thanked all her directors in Bangladesh and Tollywood for making 'Jaya Ahsan'.

Kaushik Ganguly’s Bisharjon won six awards, including those for best film in the popular category and best director, Atanu Ghosh’s heartwarming film, Mayurakshi, picked up four, including best film critics’ choice award.

Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee bagged the award for best actor (male) category.

He said this was the third Filmfare award for him and he thanked organisers for giving such a platform to up and coming artistes in the industry. Bollywood filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh presented the award to "the industry himself".

A galaxy of stars descended on the Science City Auditorium to cheer for the winners and celebrate excellence in cinema.
