Human chain on Monday demanding amendment of new VAT law

Business men calls a human chain for one hour across the country after shutting down their shops on Monday demanding amendment of new VAT law.

The declaration came up at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporter’s Community (DRU) organized by businessman unity forum on Saturday noon.

In the conference, the forum placed 7-point of demand including inclusion of ‘package VAT’ permanently.

General Secretary of the forum Abu Motaleb was the key note speaker in the press conference. He said “We have discussed with different sections of the government about our demand. But we did not get any confirmation. So, now we have announced this programme to catch the attention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

The business community will observe the peace full programme in front of their respective institutions starting from 12:00 am by closing their shops, industries and business institutions, he added.

The new VAT law was passed in parliament in 2012, but its implementation was delayed time and again due to opposition from businessmen and a lack of preparation by the tax authority.
